KULT News was just 25 miles from the California border with Mexico in the city of El Cajon auditing both public and private employees.
At least one local bank called the police on us and employees in the local school district office just about lost their minds over our cameras in their public lobby.
Our friend Anthony R. went for a First Amendment audit “ride along” with our crew and some of his footage was generously donated to add to this episode.
Would the cops we dealt with respect our rights or would they try to violate our rights as so many have before them?

Laws may vary but, generally speaking, in the United States, if you are in public you are legally able to photograph whatever you can see. Simply put, your eyes can’t be trespassed. Obviously there are some restrictions on this (i.e., bathrooms, dressing rooms, most courtrooms, locker rooms, etc.) but very few when you are in public. If you can see it, you can shoot it (this rule only applies to cameras.) This is not legal advice.
