In today’s adventure, I take a break from stealth camping and van life to do something completely different while visiting California. After attending the Celebration of Life for my friend Adam the Woo, I decided to stay a little longer and explore a piece of fast-food history. With the California sun shining and the top down on a rented convertible Mustang, I set out on a short road trip to visit the oldest operating McDonald's in the world located in Downey.
This legendary location first opened in 1953 and still keeps its classic retro look, complete with the original golden arches and the vintage mascot Speedee. While the original McDonald's started the brand, the Downey location holds the title of the oldest continuously operating McDonald’s restaurant on the planet.
In this video, we explore the historic site, check out the mini museum filled with vintage memorabilia, and of course grab some classic fast food. I ordered a Quarter Pounder with Cheese and Bacon, hot crispy fries, and a chocolate milkshake while soaking in the 1950s atmosphere.
