🦭From California to Colorado, our care makes waves! 🌊
Earlier this year, our very own Animal Care Specialist Leah joined the team at the Marine Mammal Care Center in California during a major red tide event that left thousands of sea lions in need of help. The algal bloom released a toxin that impacted marine mammals, just like Maverick, one of our own rescued sea lions.
Leah and other experts including 10 DZCA staff members stepped in to provide round-the-clock care, from feedings and exams to preparing recovering sea lions for release back into their ocean home.
Now, our very own sea lions are back here in Denver, thriving in their brand-new habitat complete with salt water, upgraded filtration, and behind-the-scenes care spaces. They’re splashing, playing, and showing off their natural behaviors during daily demos that connect guests with their story.
