"When I Die ..."
I was writing a song about dying, when I noticed that everyone who writes or sings about death, dies ... and usually tragically.
Milli Vanilli was a German-French R&B duo from Munich. The group consisted of Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus, and was founded in 1988. They sold millions of records in the early 90s and won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
They were set to release their third album, when success turned to infamy. It was discovered that Morvan and Pilatus did not sing any of the vocals. Pilatius would have been credited with singing "When I Die", one of the songs on the new album.
Pilatus sadly died at age 32. After struggling to deal with the fallout from the Milli Vanilli scandal, Pilatus died of an overdose of alcohol and pills.
Side Note: I quickly reworked the theme of my tune to be about returning home through space and time (totally not dying). I then dropped the lyrics and turned the melody into a guitar instrumental. That should be safe (youtu.be/1FuUKGrjEGY)!
