"I Can't Live ..."
I was writing a song about dying, when I noticed that everyone who writes or sings about death, dies ... and usually tragically.
In the 1990s, Mariah Carey had a hit with the emotional ballad "Without You".
In the 1980s, T.G. Sheppard had a hit with the emotional ballad "Without You".
In the 1970s, Harry Neilson had a hit with the emotional ballad "Without You".
In the 1960s, members of Badfinger wrote the emotional ballad "Without You". It was not a hit.
The song was written and sung by Badfinger guitarist Tom Evans and bassist Pete Ham.
In 1975, disallusioned by the music industry and disputes over songwriting royalties, Ham committed suicide by hanging at the age of 27.
The emotional scar of Ham's death and ongoing royalty disputes for "Without You", eventually led to Tom Evans committing suicide by hanging in 1983.
Side Note: I quickly reworked the theme of my tune to be about returning home through space and time (totally not dying). I then dropped the lyrics and turned the melody into a guitar instrumental. That should be safe (youtu.be/1FuUKGrjEGY)!
