"Suicidal Man"
I was writing a song about dying, when I noticed that everyone who writes or sings about death, dies ... and usually tragically.
Gary Thain was a New Zealand bassist, best known for his work with British rock band Uriah Heep, where he played on their first five albums.
Uriah Heep were part of the early 1970s rock scene, and have been referred to as pioneers of the hard rock, heavy metal and progressive rock genres. The band has sold over 40 million albums worldwide, where its best-known songs include "Gypsy", "Easy Livin'" and "The Wizard". The final album Thain played on featured the song "Suicidal Man".
In 1975, after being electrocuted on stage, Thain killed himself by a heroin overdose that resulted in respiratory failure. He was 27.
Side Note: I quickly reworked the theme of my tune to be about returning home through space and time (totally not dying). I then dropped the lyrics and turned the melody into a guitar instrumental. That should be safe (youtu.be/1FuUKGrjEGY)!
