"Feel Like I'm Dying"
I was writing a song about dying, when I noticed that everyone who writes or sings about death, dies ... and usually tragically.
Chris Bell was an American musician, guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Along with Alex Chilton, he led the power pop band Big Star on their 1972 ablum "#1 Record".
Despite the band name and album name, they were not big stars and did not have a hit record. However, the band has gained cult status and are often refered to as "the unsung heroes of pop music" .
"Feel", the first song on the first side, talks about dying. Bell died in 1978, when he lost control of his Triumph TR7. He was 27 and had been working on a solo album (released in 1992). The band finally had a hit in 1998 when their song "In the Street" was used as the theme music for That 70s Show.
Side Note: I quickly reworked the theme of my tune to be about returning home through space and time (totally not dying). I then dropped the lyrics and turned the melody into a guitar instrumental. That should be safe (youtu.be/1FuUKGrjEGY)!
