"Speed Kills"
I was writing a song about dying, when I noticed that everyone who writes or sings about death, dies ... and usually tragically.
Canned Heat was an American blues and rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1965 by two blues enthusiasts Alan Wilson and Bob Hite. The band's third frontman was lead guitarist Henry Vestine.
In 1968, they achieved global success with their second album, which included the song "On the Road Again" (a boogie about depression while on tour) and "Amphetamine Annie" (a warning about drug abuse).
In 1970, a depressed Wilson died of a barbiturate overdose. He was 27.
In 1981, Hite collapsed from a heroin overdose during a show in Los Angeles. He died at the age of 38.
Sadly, in 1997, a tired and cancer stricken Vestine died in Paris following the final gig of a European tour.
Side Note: I quickly reworked the theme of my tune to be about returning home through space and time (totally not dying). I then dropped the lyrics and turned the melody into a guitar instrumental. That should be safe (youtu.be/1FuUKGrjEGY)!
