Pembina Institute has issued a new report called "Drilling Down - Oil and gas jobs in transition." Friends of Science Society did some drilling down...deeper, and show that Pembina Institute is misleading the public on a number of premises in the report. We consulted with retired energy economist, Robert Lyman, who explained that, contrary to Pembina Institute's premise about job losses in the oil and gas sector, it is a capital intensive, not a labour intensive industry. The video goes on to make several key points that show that Pembina's analysis of the reasons for oil and gas job losses are flawed. Their claim of impending 'thousands or hundreds of thousands' of clean energy or renewable jobs for the non-existent energy transition is Magical Thinking. Pembina Institute's recommendations for more regulation to force subsidized 'clean energy' (it's not clean) and renewables jobs into being would be detrimental for taxpayers. Oil and gas are large revenue earners for Canada; renewables are subsidy takers from tax dollars. See what we found when we did some drilling down...deeper.
