On June 4, 2026, some 300 mayors and councillors sent an emotional joint letter to the federal government for an exotic list of climate action demands. They claimed to jointly represent half the population of Canada, though there is no evidence that the electorate were ever consulted. They call it ELBOWS UP FOR CLIMATE and this group of mayors met just before the June conference of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities in Edmonton. First, they’ll spend YOUR money, like the $530 MILLION dollar grant from Environment and Climate Change Canada to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities … for the Low Carbon Cities Canada program, “LC3”, operational in seven major cities. THEN they will spend other people’s money to finance their green climate madness through a windfall tax on Big Oil! The "Elbows Up for Climate" mayors and councillors had five policy demands; a national clean energy grid in every direction, the building of at least 2 million net-zero below-market homes, mass retrofits, heat pumps and solar installations, a national high-speed rail system connected to local electric buses and a “national resilience, response and recovery strategy.” The mayors claimed they did not want any new fossil fuel projects, like pipelines; they wanted "nation building, not nation burning" projects, invoking the Jasper wildfire and extreme weather events as being driven by climate change due to greenhouse gas emissions. But not even the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) does not attribute greenhouse gas emissions to causing wildfires… In fact, for years prior to the Jasper wildfire, Ken Hodges, a retired BC forester, had travelled at his own expense to speak to forested mountain cities like Jasper, to warn them of the threat of a megafire. And somehow these "Elbows Up" mayors are not good at math. Since the presently planned ALTO High Speed Rail between Toronto and Quebec City is estimated to cost $90 BILLION alone…but this group is demanding a nation-wide high-speed rail system with electric buses, you can see that this collection of mayors and councillors who represent half the population of Canada need some lessons in math. All their proposed projects cost money….By contrast, building pipelines for oil and gas to tidewater, in order to reach global markets, will bring Canada much-needed revenues to address our debt and create good paying jobs. These mayors need to be busy filling potholes, maintaining vital city infrastructure like water mains and flood plans. They need to put their Elbows Down and get to work for 100% of Canadian citizens, half of whom live in cities with crumbling infrastructure, thanks to decades of climate activism diverting precious public funds to climate nonsense.
