On the 14th November 2025, the University of Arkansas Power Group (UA Power Group) unveiled its new 6" silicon carbide (SiC) fab on its technology research park at Fayetteville, in North West Arkansas: the MUSiC Fab (Multi-User Silicon Carbide Facility).

The official announcement from UA Power Group said the MUSiC fab marks a major milestone in Arkansas’ emergence as a center of excellence in semiconductor and power electronics technology. It added, "The state’s leadership in silicon carbide — a critical strategic material for next-generation energy, transportation, data centers, and aerospace systems — positions Arkansas at the forefront of America’s drive for technology sovereignty."

EE Times' Editor-in-Chief Nitin Dahad attended the launch ceremony where guests included many industry ecosystem players including Wolfspeed, GlobalFoundries, and Vishay, as well state officials.

Nitin spoke to the founding director of the UA Power Group, Dr. Alan Mantooth, on the importance of the fab both for the industry as well as for the nation. Alan also emphasizes the role of MUSiC as a center of excellence for silicon carbide which also acts as a national and global sandbox for startups and established companies wanting to develop SiC based power electronics products and manufacture small volumes in industry established processes that allow easy migration to full volume fabs elsewhere.
