KULT News found an exceptionally dishonest bank manager in Slidell, Louisiana, recently. The banker repeatedly told bald-faced lies to law enforcement about a man outside of the bank on a public sidewalk taking photos.
Of course police were called but would the responding officer recognize and respect our First Amendment rights or would he try to violate them?

Laws may vary but, generally speaking, in the United States, if you are in public you are legally able to photograph whatever you can see. Simply put, your eyes can’t be trespassed. Obviously there are some restrictions on this (i.e., bathrooms, dressing rooms, most courtrooms, locker rooms, etc.) but very few when you are in public. If you can see it, you can shoot it (this rule only applies to cameras.) This is not legal advice.
