Plant Stand:
Materials Needed:
- two 3-step stringers (treated lumber)
- four 2x6x4 pieces of treated lumber
- box of 3-inch galvanized wood screws
- plastic screw anchors (if you are attaching your stand to the wall)
Tools Needed:
- rotary hammer (if you are attaching your stand to a concrete or brick wall)
- drill with screwdriver bit
- circular saw (if wood is not pre-cut)
- eye and ear protection
STEPS TO CREATE A PLANT STAND
Step1
Connect your stringers. Using one of the 2x6x4 pieces of lumber, connect the stringers. By turning the stringers upside-down, you can increase height and reduce the width of the shelf.
Step2
Support the shelf. If you are going to connect your shelf to a wall, drill a pilot hole through the back brace and mark the spot on the wall you will need to drill. Next, using a rotary hammer, drill your hole. If you are drilling in stone or mortar, it is a good idea to tap a plastic anchor into the hole before screwing the shelf to the wall. If you are making your shelves free-standing, 2x4s can be used to form supporting legs.
Step3
Connect your shelves. After your frame is erected, you can add your shelves. Be sure to use galvanized screws to insure protection against weather.
Vine Pole:
Materials Needed:
- 4x4 post
- Three 3/4 inch dowel rods
- finial and finial base

Tools Needed:
- drill with 3/4 wood bit
- hammer
- step ladder
- eye and ear protection
STEPS TO CREATE A VINE POLE
Step1
Install your finial. Finials come in all shapes and sizes. Choose one that compliments your landscape or one that matches existing fence or deck posts.
Step2
Install your dowel rods. Cut your dowel rods into 1-foot sections. Drill 3/4 inch holes, approximately 12 inches apart, through the post. Tap the dowel rods through the post, until they are even on both sides.
Step3
Plant your vine. All that’s left now is to choose and plant a “twining” style vine at the base of your pole. Honeysuckle is always a good choice.
