- Approx. 264 ft 5mm Recycled String (Colour: Vintage Teal) 33 x 8ft
- Approx. 26 ft 3mm Recycled String (Colour: Lemon)
- Approx. 24 ft 3mm Recycled String (Colour: Vintage Peach)
- Approx. 24 ft 3mm Recycled String (Colour: Bisque)
Hey guys! It’s about that time of the year again for another flower wall hanging! I was inspired by my cherry blossom tree wall hanging for this one. I hope you enjoy it! Many of the components of this wall hanging are similar to that one so if you watched the tutorial for that one you’ll have no problem with this one. If you missed it, I’ll link it below.
This piece requires 265 ft of 5mm string in the colour vintage teal and approx. 25 ft of 3mm string in the colours lemon yellow, vintage peach and bisque. The final piece measures 22 inches wide by 30 inches long.
I’ll give you a few instructions as I go but for the most part this is a follow along tutorial.
Start by cutting 13 pieces of 3mm lemon yellow string, 12 pieces of 3mm vintage peach string and 12 pieces of 3mm bisque string, each piece is 2 ft long. Set aside for now. Cut 33 pieces of 5mm string in the colour vintage teal, each piece is 8 ft long. Fold each piece in half and attach each piece to your dowel using a reverse Lark’s Head knot.
Use the outside cord as your filler cord and start tying your double half hitch knots (dhhks) moving down and to the right. Start to create the first leaf. Tie the first dhhk 1.5 inches down from your dowel. The last knot at the tip of the leaf will sit 3.5 inches down from the dowel at the top of your work.
Create a berry knot. Grab a piece of vintage peach string, find the middle and tie a sk (square knot) around one filler cord. Tie 1 more sk (2 total). Make a loop and then tie one more sk to 2 cords (the filler cord and another cord on the right or left of that cord) underneath the berry to secure it in place. Cut off the excess cord.
I am now starting the first leaf on the left. The last knot at the tip of this leaf will sit 6 inches down from the dowel at the top of your work.
I am now starting the second leaf on the right. The last knot at the tip of this leaf will sit 7.5 inches down from the dowel at the top of your work.
I am now starting the second leaf on the left. The last knot at the tip of this leaf will sit 8.5 inches down from the dowel at the top of your work.
I am now starting the third leaf on the right. The last knot at the tip of this leaf will sit 10 inches down from the dowel at the top of your work.
I am now starting the third leaf on the left. The last knot at the tip of this leaf will sit 12.5 inches down from the dowel at the top of your work.
I am now starting the fourth leaf on the right. The last knot at the tip of this leaf will sit 11.5 inches down from the dowel at the top of your work.
Tie 3 more berry knots here.
Sorry guys, my camera cut out here. Tie 5 more dhhks to create the bottom of this leaf. Then tie one final dhhk to connect the sides of the leaf.
Tie 2 more berry knots here.
I am now starting the fourth leaf on the left. The last knot at the tip of this leaf will sit 14.5 inches down from the dowel at the top of your work.
I am now starting the 5th leaf on the right. The last knot at the tip of this leaf will sit 13.5 inches down from the dowel at the top of your work.
I am now starting the 5th leaf on the left. The last knot at the tip of this leaf will sit 16 inches down from the dowel at the top of your work.
I am now starting the final leaf. The last knot at the tip of this leaf will sit 17 inches down from the dowel at the top of your work.
Tie a few more berry knots here as you see fit underneath the leaves. Here is what I came up with.
Optional: Add a bit of clear glue to attach the ends of string to the berry knots so that they don’t stick out.
Cut the ends to whatever length you’d like - I cut mine on an angle with the left side hanging about 2 ft down from the dowel and the right side hanging 3 ft down from the dowel.
