Welcome back to the incredible Utah Retro Gaming Expo 2026! Contrary to what my wife strongly advised before I left, I am officially back in the driver's seat and ready for redemption. We are hanging out at the unbelievable backyard Mario Kart style go-kart track built by the amazing event organizers, Tracy and Cindy. If you were following my convention adventures last year during the 2025 event, you already know the painful and infamous backstory. Last year, I pushed the limits a little too hard on this exact dirt circuit, ended up completely flipping my go-kart, and brutally dislocated my fingers! Naturally, returning for 2026 meant everyone at the convention was making jokes, taking bets, and wondering if I was going to recreate the disaster and crash the kart all over again this year.
But not this time! This year is all about precision, mastering the perfect racing lines, and proving that I can actually turn a clean lap on this amazing real-life Moo Moo Meadows track without busting my hand. The Utah Retro Gaming Expo is known across the country for its massive collection of vintage arcade cabinets, retro video game consoles, and classic gaming vendors, but having a full-blown racing track right in the backyard elevates this convention to absolute legendary status!
Join me as I walk you through the ultimate track breakdown. We have beautiful Utah skies overhead as we tackle these sharp corners and elevation changes. The secret to surviving and setting a fast lap time on this backyard circuit is all about how you manage your momentum and read the racing lines. You want to hug the apex tight on the early curbing and then let the go-kart drift out wide to keep your speed up. As we approach the technical sections of the track, we clip the corners closely, executing a short apex to set up perfectly for the next straightaway. Just like in real-life racing or a professional video game simulator, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. I do my very best to straight-line the tricky chicane sections, allowing the kart to drift naturally and maintain maximum roll speed as we aggressively climb up the hill.
Coming up that specific hill is exactly where disaster struck in 2025, but this time, I am staying entirely focused on the path ahead. We navigate the kink, come out wide, and then cut tightly into the inside of the next major apex. Getting a flawless racing line here allows the roll speed to peak before drifting to the outside of the track, perfectly lining up the main straightaway chicane. I even caught a glimpse of fellow retro gaming legends Riff and Brett Weiss along the way!
Of course, I had to play up the drama for the camera. Approaching the dreaded first corner where the infamous 2025 crash happened, I gave everyone a massive scare by pretending to lose my brakes! But in reality, I learned my lesson the hard way last year. We safely yielded to incoming karts, respected the track layout, and successfully completed my redemption laps. I am absolutely thrilled to report that my hands remain completely intact and injury-free for 2026! It turns out it is actually possible for me to drive a go-kart here and not end up requiring an X-ray.
This incredible backyard track is a true testament to the passion of the Utah Retro Gaming Expo organizers and the amazing community that gathers here every single year.
