I came downstairs one morning to find powdered sugar rings on my kitchen counter — and it turns out that scene tells us something important about how we know anything about the past. Ken Ham likes to ask "Were you there?" as a way of dismissing historical science. In this video I use the evidence on my own countertop to show why that question, taken seriously, actually undermines the young-earth creationist position rather than supporting it. I walk through the logic of historical inference — from powdered sugar halos to volcanic ash layers in Nevada — and show why high confidence about past events doesn't require direct eyewitness observation. I also revisit a moment from a Bodie Hodge talk that has always bothered me: the claim that "all we know" about a dinosaur fossil is that it existed and died, while YEC organizations simultaneously build their entire framework on historical inferences they won't consistently apply.
