I've been filming Derby for my YouTube channel since 2006 and in those 20 years Ive captured how Derby had changed over the years.
One series that has always been popular is my "Derby streets by car" series. I thought I would reupload one I took in 2009 and shows the roads before the Inner ring road was completed.
I filmed this at 6:30am on Friday 3rd July 2009, my original upload was double speed, this time its real-time.
It doesn't sound that long ago, but it was 17 years ago and I find it interesting seeing just how many things have changed in that time.
If you know the local area well then you will be able to spot the changes too. Leave a comment if there is anything I've missed that you have spotted (include the timecode)
Here are the most obvious ones :
02:30 on the corner of Dean/Amy Street and Stockbrook Street that corner plot was empty, a new building was built in 2011.
06:12 Drewry Lane - Forgot the car park used to quite large back then before the inner ring road was completed and then more recently that row of houses they built that runs along side Mercian Way on the car park area.
08:00 Ahead looks very different as the Inner ring road was just about starting to be layed out, that yellow building is now the site of Lidl.
08:05 Ahead is where today the Mercian Way roundabout connects the completed inner ring road to Stafford Street and Uttoxeter New Road.
08:10 Great Northern Road with the old engine house which has since been restored.
08:14 the old electricity site on the right which was demolished and is now Derby Cathedral school.
09:30 on the corner of Slack Lane and Uttoxeter Old Road has been built on in 2023
10:13 Ahead is Goodalls Butchers, they vanished quite some time ago and that plot has been so many things over the years.
