In this Derby then and now I'm Standing in the middle of the roundabout where Uttoxeter New Road meets with Stafford Street, Curzon Street and Mercian Way. I'm looking North towards the Great Northern Rail bonded warehouse.
In the 2011 view notice how one of the white hoist houses are still present, this would have contained a "crab winch", a hoisting mechanism for lifting goods up to the top floor of the warehouse.
The bonded warehouse had 4 of these, This final one was destroyed during a fire in May 2020.
You will also notice that there is a chimney on the right side of the building which vanishes. that chimney was present in April 2022 as you can see in my video here : youtu.be/fTTCJFYTh9M?si=bye55PeqmWO-gWyz
It must have been removed when Cawarden used three large cranes to remove debris from inside the structure in preperation possible development as its gone in April 2024 : youtube.com/watch?v=sKp6dvNCkRI
I took my "then" photo in May 2011, two months after the completed Inner ring road opened 16th March 2011. I remember making a note of where I took the photograph from with the intention of doing a "now" photograph in the future from the same place, little did I know 15 years later I would be taking a new photo seeing the warehouse transformed.

Please note that the Then & now section on my website is currently in need of a revamp as they were all created back in 2005 using Flash and this is no longer supported so I will have to recreate all of my work again using a different method. In the meantime I'm publishing them on my YouTube channel like this one.
