I love the dark, sinister, "Gothic" sound of this style of organ playing. The late Jon Lord captured this essence well.
I first heard this back in Feb 1984, and was amazed by this sound the band created. I wanted to learn how to play this, way back at age 17, but didn't have the equipment or the skills to properly replicate it.
Come Fall of 2005, I had a proper Hammond Organ, but still lacked the skills in which to play it, to the ability of what I considered, to my satisfaction. So I put it on hold with the mindset to record it "one day".
Well along came August 21, 2020, and I woke up from bed that morning, and said, this is the day I finally do it-- warts and all-- and if it needs a little editing here and there, then so be it.
I dressed for the occasion, as the Concerto was a serious piece of work, that commanded a higher dress code-- than my usual "Corona Virus wear"-- (hole-ly t-shirt, and cut-up night shorts!)
So here it is, my favorite part of the Concerto for Group and Orchestra-- 2nd Movement (Andante) organ solo-- captured in the spirit of how I always dreamed that I would one day be able to play it; distorted, grinding, Gothic organ and all!
