Of all the villainous themes and melodies in the Transformers series, few are as recognizable or distinct as the thematic identity of the Decepticons themselves. Though sadly abandoned after Revenge of the Fallen, this theme proved to be one of the series' most iconic and menacing melodies. Based off of pulsing, grungy electronics and low, harsh strings, the theme is built around a chanting choir that progresses in 2-note syllable phrases that get more and more intense as the variations progress, going from throaty, digitally altered male chanting to loud, holy-esque chanting supported by female singers. Their theme makes great use of this chanting pattern, pairing it with an electronic soundscape that reeks of decay and corruption. Though the electronics are a key element to their musical identity, the choir is their key thematic identity, and as such showcases the Decepticons as these ancient, merciless, hellbent beings that will stop at nothing to raze Earth to the ground. Their musical drive and majesty is outmatched by their cruelty and malice, and Jablonsky's theme for the Decepticons proved to be one of the most stark, unique, and melodically dark pieces of music in the Transformers series.
