Aaaalright then! Wanna say real quick that I have not watched the video yet, so again, this gonna be like, a before, and then we're gonna have an after of my reactions XD
This started when Beth yet again told me that she found another song that could be good for a deaf edit, and I was exploding with ''!!!!'' when she told me that the only thing she can tell me is that the song could fit better for a girl character than a guy, and I instantly knew that I wanted to edit with Aki Izayoi. However, problems arose when it came to fiiinding clips, bc I've last only watched episode 4 of 5D's, but she appears in episode 14. Therefore, I was left with having to find clips of her in random Youtube videos, so - I'm not sure how bad the quality will be here, but if it's very bad - I apologize ^^''
I only have like 3 gifs of her in here, and then one clip from an actual raw file I have, which is BBT, but the rest are from YT.
I also spoiled myself a lot when making this, which is uh, not nice XD''
This was also the extent of what I felt like I could do with the clips at my disposal bc I really wanted to use different kinds of clips, like ones of her being happy, but I just couldn't find many of those.
I had briefly seen that the background of the video she sent me (she can't really send me the audio alone so she sends me a video and then I remove the video track) has a purple background, which made me assume that the song is soft, which, yesterday she confirmed that it was soft-ish - and from that point, I needed to reevaluate the clips and effects I used for this video, bc I was kinda going for a badass vibe and also kinda not? I changed some colors and clips - like for instance I took out a clip where Aki was about to trip with her back falling onto a glass shard near the end.
Also I feel like the only soft moments here will be the ones of Yusei and Aki together - which I actually didn't want to use bc I wanted this to just be about Aki and her badassery, but I kinda didn't have a choice bc I was running low on happy clips to use.
Beth did tell me though that if placed correctly, the Yusei and Aki clips could be fitting, which is good! But we'll just have to see WHERE they will be, in the end.
Even if I tried not to, I still kinda half assed the clips at the end, whoops XD''
Oh and uh, about the ''lyric'' thing - I decided to be bold and added a thing like this XD Even when I'm COMPLETELY unsure if a lyric is gonna be there or nah XD I first put this effect at the 33 second mark, or so, but Beth suggested that I move it backwards, so yep XD''
I made a coloring this time around - a rather neutral one, which I refined after I was told that the song was ''softish''.
I also added an overlay, which I hope will work? XD''
And I hope that the fade to light purple will be fitting, as well.

Okay and in general this took a while to make - mostly bc I wasn't sure what to do with the clips, and maybe also bc of the length of this audio.
This was fun to make, though, and I'm excited to finally be able to hear the song later!
Welp, hoping for some interesting results, I suppose??? Bc I guess that's all I have to say for now - I'll edit this later XD

EDIT: Oh my god XD The beginning - it-it doesn't fit XDD ''It's gonna be a good life'' and then not-so happy clips XD But maybe the chorus is fine, and the song does seem to fit Aki, maybe? OWO

Welp, this is probably the fastest that ive even edited recently, plus, its a Sonic project! So i personally find it even more surprising that i got it done so quickly.
But but! theres a reason for this x3 I made this as a gift for my girlfriend, @EnchantedNebula , because she hadnt been doing well recently.
Katie, id like to once again mention that im always here for you and here to support you c: I believe in you, and that its gonna be okay in some way or another! I hope you enjoy this little gift! ^^
I somehow went with instinct when making this (especially when setting the clips), so i feel like that is what drove me to finish this quickly, without thinking much. Its something between effort and low-effort for me. Moderate-ish/a fair amount of effort, to a point ^^
I wanted to combine these two songs, because a couple months back Katie showed me Alright, and i knew that she likes this song, and i felt like it could be an alright (ksadhasdjk) semi-positive song, but this song also made me think of another one i know by HU, which is Gonna be OK. Thus, i decided to combine the two, so i suppose its songs that we both like owo
It was a bit hectic to make this tho bc i had to be out today, plus i still need to revise for an exam. But im sure that... itll all be okay in the end ^^ And im happy that i was able to finish this, in the end :3

My, theres quite a lot to say about this one. Ill start from the beginning!
Firstly, i wanna say that this project is quite a special one to me, which will be explained why, a bit below.
Back in, i believe early October of last year, I had really gotten into listening to Flyleaf, so much so that they became one of my fave bands! This was one of the songs i came across from them that I really grew to like. I no longer remember how i found the song, but the next memory i have is that I could barely listen to the song Without realizing that this fits Wei and Lan so well, and getting extremely vivid visions of a Wangxian edit with this song. The inspiration was absolutely overwhelming, and this was happening during a time when i was still so nervous and unsure about my new year in uni, where i felt like I was losing my touch with creativity - something which is very important to me for self-expression.
The idea of the video goes as such: I envision this song as being Lan singing to Wei, and singing about him. Hes singing to him in his most vulnerable moment, when his vessel has become far too weak, and he finds himself reflecting on Weis past actions, and trying to find it in his heart to explain himself, and comfort Wei in this moment. He never hated him.
The black and white variations were supposed to represent different parts in time, based on their color scheme.
Full color: the past
Half-colored b&w: the present
Full b&w: the imaginary, hopeful and ideal visions
Although with time, during the editing process, this color symbolism faded a bit in favor of adding smooth color transitions and added intensity.
It didnt take long for me to slap down this song into Vegas and absolutely FILL the timeline with markers about my clip ideas - i knew exactly which scenes i wanted to use. Then, worry started to settle in. What if the clips dont look the way i hope? what if this is another project I will start and give up on?.
Nevertheless, i pushed forwards with this project when i had the time. Shuffling the project between two different computers, losing some of my files along the way.
I wanted the clips to match both the lyrics and my story. I believe the more I set clips, the more a very clear idea popped into my head - i wanted to work with voice overs and sound effects! But i didnt just wanna plop some down for the sake of it, i wanted to create an entire atmosphere in this video with the sound effects. I see some editors splendidly use sound effects in their videos and I really commend them for it! I wanted to go all-out with my work, as well. And so, i started looking up tutorials on how to work with sound design ^^ Important to note, however, is that most of the separate sfx arent mine, i tried to find copyright-free or general sound effects on YT. I did, however, make a couple wind howl sounds from white noise ^^
Adding the clips was a process of adding the scenes i already had in mind; some got swapped out. And for others I had to add something new or work on the clip flow.
To add to being ambitious, i tried to do more masks than usual, experiment with transitions. I wanted to build atmosphere with layering light rays to add an extra glow to water scenes for example, too.
I spent a lot of time trying to get the effects to be just perfect - exactly how i want them to be. Up until the final days that i worked on finishing this, that entire process got so tiring that i barely had the energy to work on this anymore. Detail can naturally come out as i get into the process, which it did. And i finished this out of spite last night at 4 AM, but left small fixes and rendering for today.
Ah yeah. And another aspect that made this video feel special to me is that for a couple months late last year, and early this year, I had felt like i relate to bits of this song, and In The Dark by Flyleaf in their own ways. Its like this encapsulates my mental state, my reoccurring hyperfixation on Wangxian, and my new creative attempts/mindset all in one video.
I dont mind if to someone else this may sound silly, but making this and finishing it meant a lot to me. While it took me 9 months to finish, in realtime those 9 months where long, excruciating months for me, with some days being so much harder than others. this video being here in the state that it is, is a reminder to myself about some things i found completely hard to believe during these long months: that i havent lost my creative spark, that i still know how to edit well, that i can finish ideas i start, and that im still capable of pursuing my passion - art, design, video editing. So this is an idea that my best friend suggested!
She suggested that we edit with the same audio, but dont reveal how were editing to each other, or what were using, and then we could compare how differently we see the audio ^^
I suggested this audio, from there, and then we took off XD
I would like to mention that she has edited for only about a month, on and off ^^ And this is also the first finished edit, as well XD Personally I really like the result of her version!!!! XD I shall provide a link to her edit down below ^^
She also used Vegas for her edit, if anything ^^
This took me about 2 hours to finish, aaand it took her 2 days to finish her edit ^^
And basically the way that we communicated over skype while editing was like lets add this thing - ah yes thats a good thing XD Just to not spoil each other XD
I dont have too much to say atm, but I would like to say that this whole idea was really fun and it was a lot of fun to make this - plus it was easy :3
Oh oh!!! And another thing is that I tried nesting or pre-comping in Vegas for the first time in this project (and actually sticking to that precomp) and this is definitely how Im gonna keep doing it from now on, rather than rendering and then putting the file back in Vegas!!! ^^
Oh I also decided to start using some new things in this edit, and I think Ive come to like these things as well ^^ One of them being that Ive started to like adding renoiser in MBL, and also LUT and adjusting the strength of that ^^ Ive also come to like making text into what I would call an invisible square more often, especially if its a single word ^^
Im veeeery happy with the result of my own edit, especially the coloring :3 I ended up experimenting a bit with the coloring itself, as yall can see :3
The thing is that I rendered this multiple times tho, bc I wanted to see if I wanted this with more RSMB, mild RSMB, or no RSMB ^^ Doing this I was able to see the differences between rendering with and without RSMB too owo
So it went like this!:
No RSMB: 7 minutes
Mild RSMB: 10 minutes
Heavy-ish RSMB: 14 minutes ^^
I had to do some comparing afterwards and I decided to keep the one with mild RSMB, which is also, of course, the one you see here ^^
