This Meccano model demonstrates the principles of a 17th-century deadbeat escapement—a mechanism known for its precision and lack of recoil. As the escape wheel turns, the ‘lock and slide’ motion of the pallets can be seen and heard, offering a clear view of the impulse and dead phases in action.

Each pallet edge is shaped for optimal engagement, and when properly adjusted, the mechanism delivers reliable timekeeping. Though simplified, this build captures the essence of the original Graham escapement.
