In June 2025, you would've thought the Big Boy was coming through town! But no, it was just the daily Amtrak Coast Starlight but definitely with some goodies on it. The AMTK 510, a B32-8WH, and the AMTK 160 "Pepsi Can: both made an appearance on train 11! A few days prior when the northbound train of Los Angeles was getting ready to leave, the lead P42 locomotive suffered a mechanical failure which required another locomotive to come out and "rescue" the train before it could even start its journey north. The locomotive just happened to be a dash 8 from LA's 8th Street Amtrak yard. Once the train arrived in Seattle, another P42 was added to the train so that upon arrival back into Los Angeles, they would the normal duo of P42s for power. But of course, I had to get eyes on this train myself so I left Bakersfield and headed for Paso Robles where I would chase the train to Oxnard. So, enjoy the chase!
