I hit him with that crazy backswing at the end.. I really like the Great Club. It's more than just big damage numbers, it has a really versatile moveset and massive reach.. but it's also one of the hardest hitting weapons.
I don't know why they change Great Club moveset in every game but it's awesome in Dark Souls 2.. The big R2 slam is amazing now but the followup attack isn't great. It's usually better to roll attack then R2 again if you have the stamina.
You can combo other moves into R2 quickly but it's usually not worth going for the spin attack. You'll usually pancake most enemies anyways so it will whiff or doesn't do a ton of damage to bosses. I kept thinking I was missing something but it's just a useless move.. Some of the other multi-hit moves can do a lot of damage but it's hard to actually land all the hits. Great Club just does no damage on the spin attack. Grab the Smelter Hammer if you want a strong spin attack.
