Dam Square is the main town square and the heartbeat of Amsterdam. It features several historic buildings including the Royal Palace, the 600 year-old De Nieuwe Kerk (The New Church), and the National Monument, which commemorates Dutch victims of World War II and all subsequent wars. Dam Square also features shopping at Swarovski, H&M, Dior, and De Bijenkorf. There are also tourist attractions like Madame Tussauds Amsterdam and Ripley's Believe It or Not. In this video, I give you some history of the square, including how Amsterdam got its name, and clarify whether Holland is actually a country.
