HACK vs MOD
Here is words of wise and moral engineer:
"A hack is replacing an OEM part with a substitute part. Rarely will it be as good, but the standard is simple - does it do the job and does it hold up. Any skeptic who criticizes a hack without trying it themselves is operating from low ground of arrogant ignorance. A person can refuse to do a hack, and that is defensible. The OEM parts, minus a recall event, always hold the high ground.
"Now a mod is different. People romanticize it and make 'mod' sound like something sexy. It means you are RE-ENGINEERING and the risk level goes WAY UP. If you told me you intended to do mod work on the trigger or power plant, those videos, I would have to excuse myself from here. Look, you say a mod channel disappeared. Sure, it likely caused bad events. A gifted engineer could make an 880 shoot a 15 grain pellet 1000 fps. But turning around and expecting the general public to do that RIGHT is risky. The regular Joe makes mistakes, does not test hard enough, does not know what tests to do. Mistakes sneak by like a Black Widow in the dark. At best the gun goes kaput. At worst...a shooter gets hurt.
"You told me Daisy changed to 880 from the original brass tube design. Ok, that means the engineering team there tested and tested....refined and refined. When they verified that it worked and was better, then the corporation has the ability to mass produce the new product to EXACTING specs...for millions of units. I could probably figure out a way to make the 880 shoot 1200 fps, BUT I would keep that to myself. Turning around and expecting the general public to easy emulate my work is being a loose cannon and, as I see it, a derliliction of duty."
