This is custom Battletech and Mechwarrior layout I use with the larger pre-painted Mechwarrior figures and N gauge model railroad stuff. The mats are custom from a dude that unfortunately I don't think makes them anymore, same as the roads and rivers.
I chose to stick with the hex layout because it's easy and fast and there's no questioning distances. I make the terrain myself with insulation foam and my foam saw, then paint them and use a stencil for the hexes. I also repaint and integrate some old micro-machines vehicles and buildings into the game since they are approximately the same scale of 1:160
We play Battletech rules, but with the Mechwarrior integration from 2nd edition, but pull some rules from later editions of the game to make it more fun and do things you couldn't do in earlier editions and of course include Citytech and all that good stuff. Makes for fun games.
