The cuccagna pole is a traditional folk game in which participants try to take prizes, usually food, placed at the top of a pole. Usually the pole is covered with grease or another substance that makes it difficult for the competitors to climb. Today it is considered a sport, and is officially recognized by the Coni. In fact, every year 2 national championships are held: one divided into 2 categories: pole A (13 meters), and pole B (9 meters) organized by the Italian Cuccagna Pole Association (AIPC), and one organized by the Cuccagna Acrobats Association.
