Laken Snelling, a former University of Kentucky cheerleader, broke down in tears as she pleaded guilty to killing her newborn son. Snelling admitted in court that she deprived the infant of oxygen after giving birth, placed the baby in a plastic bag and failed to report the birth. She pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant. The case began after police found the newborn unresponsive inside a home near the University of Kentucky campus. A medical examiner later determined the baby was born alive and died of asphyxiation. Snelling is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 16.
