The second webinar of the Consumer Food Waste Webinar Series was held on Monday, 11/18/24. This webinar featured Dr. Yu Meng, Youth, Families, and Community Advisor at the University of California Cooperative Extension, Dr. Amanda Missimer, Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Rhode Island, and Vanessa Venturini, State Program Leader at the University of Rhode Island.
There are many opportunities and needs to engage community education specialists in delivering household food waste reduction education. Yu Meng shared results from UC-ANR Household Food Waste Survey project and ReFED funded Household Food Waste Study. Vanessa Venturini and Amanda Missimer discussed their successful Food Recovery for Rhode Island program, an online course with hands-on field sessions and an internship that leads to real results for people and the planet - and works in any setting. They also shared information regarding their developing consumer education program to combat wasted food in households and spark community-driven change.
