~Program Notes~
It is a DPops tradition to kick off every season with the Disney Logo Theme and, by extension, a Disney arrangement. The soundtrack to Coco, originally composed by Robert Lopez '97, Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Michael Giacchino, Germaine Franco and Adrian Molina, was the clear choice to open our first live concert since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Coco follows the story of Miguel, a young guitarist whose family has banned the performance of music. In the Land of the Dead, Miguel experiences firsthand the power of music as it relates to family, memory, community and culture. Upon his return, Miguel convinces his family to allow music once more into their lives. This story is meaningful to many of us at DPops, to whom the orchestra is a family and the music we share an integral part of our lives at Yale. Coco is a collaborative arrangement and the DPops arranging premiere for Hanna Adamski, Hannah Ji, and Gabrielle Sevillano.
