At 'DPops: Faux Pops' in Battell Chapel on December 6, 2015

Dear Friends and Family,

Good evening, and welcome to the Davenport Pops Orchestra’s December concert! As Co-Presidents of the orchestra, we thank you for coming and hope you enjoy “DPops Presents: Faux Pops.”

Founded by a group of undergraduates in 2005, the Davenport Pops Orchestra (affectionately known as DPops) brings together Yale musicians who love playing popular music. As Yale’s premier pops orchestra, we specialize in film scores, Broadway hits, popular classical works, hip- hop charts, and more. Our repertoire ranges from original film scores to dynamic student arrangements. We strive to present a diverse repertoire that offers something for every audience member.

We would like for tonight’s music to speak to the memory of the victims of the recent Paris terror attacks. In selecting the pieces for this concert over the summer, we were reminded of how enthralled we are by the values and culture the nation of France has gifted the world, and how we try to emulate them. These values of liberté, egalité, and fraternité are, as President Obama noted, universally significant. A tragedy of this scope impacts us all, and our thoughts are with those whose lives have been affected by acts of senseless hate and violence. We hope that tonight’s program will provide a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit, and of music’s magical ability to enrich it.
