Confirmed — this is Clutch, the new open world racing game from Maverick Games, an independent UK studio founded in December 2022 by Mike Brown, the former creative director on Forza Horizon 5, alongside a team of around 140 people pulled largely from Playground Games. It was officially revealed on June 2, 2026, with a full trailer following at the Summer Game Fest Showcase a few days later, and it is set to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC in spring 2027.
The footage in this clip is exactly what it says on the watermark, genuine pre release content from June 2026, showing a side mission delivering wine through a French Riviera inspired open world before a police chase kicks in. That setting is central to the whole game, since the story follows two sibling racing prodigies, Theo and Cass, caught between a prestigious century old motorsport championship called the R1K and an underground street racing crew known as the Midnight Collective. The campaign was actually written by Jamie Brittain, co creator of the BAFTA winning show Skins, and the game runs on a heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 5.
One genuinely interesting behind the scenes detail is that Clutch originally had a publishing deal with Amazon Games back in 2024, only for Amazon to pull out entirely in early 2026 as part of a wider retreat from publishing games. Maverick kept full rights to the project and pushed ahead independently while searching for a new partner, which makes this reveal even more of a statement. Expect police pursuits, grappling hook escapes, and a PvPvE structure where you are racing against AI, the cops, and real players all sharing the same world.
