Clinton police are using new body camera technology that can translate 50 languages in real time, helping officers communicate with people who speak different languages. Police say Spanish and Portuguese are among the translations used most often in town.

Before the upgrade, officers would have to call an outside agency or use their phones for translation. Clinton police say the technology has helped officers communicate in cases involving stolen property and domestic violence.

The department is also using automated license plate readers. Police say Flock cameras assisted in 23 cases last year, including efforts to find missing people and track down carjackers.
