The mechanism for the reduction of a ketone to an alcohol using N-Selectride. There are multiple reagents that have the formula M[HB(sec-Bu)3] which are all used as reducing agents. There are three different cations with these reducing agents and they are L-Selectride (lithium), N-Selectride (sodium), and K-Selectride (potassium). Due to the sec butyl groups on these reducing agents, these reagents are sensitive to steric influences which has the potential to allow for stereoselective reactions.
