Pieces of Plaque Causing Blue Toes? (Cholesterol Emboli Syndrome) | Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment

Cholesterol Emboli Syndrome (also known as Cholesterol Embolization Syndrome) is a condition involving the disruption and “fracturing” of a previously existing atherosclerotic plaque, with pieces of the plaque (which consists of cholesterol and a few other components) entering into the bloodstream and lodging into and obstructing smaller arteries and vessels and damaging organs like the kidneys.
