As Typhoon Saudel approaches the East China Sea, local officials successfully evacuated all 126 elderly residents from a high-risk coastal area to safe shelters. Among those evacuated was 90-year-old Zhou Lingxiang.
Meanwhile, Shanghai is racing to protect its massive power grid. In Fengcheng Town, located in the southern Fengxian District, power workers are using ladders and aerial work platforms to trim tree branches near overhead power cables to prevent wind-induced outages. Maintenance teams deep beneath central Shanghai are checking flood barriers and emergency drainage pumps. Water control stations in Shanghai's Baoshan District have successfully drained over 18 million cubic meters of river water ahead of schedule to create safe flood storage space.
Typhoon Saudel has intensified into a super typhoon and entered the 24-hour warning zone as it moves toward China's eastern coastline, where it is projected to hit the Zhejiang or Fujian coast between Thursday and Friday.
