Ambition has always been a revered trait in Chinese culture, and that trait is showing its colors as China prepares to make the world's tallest building and in just 90 days. That would be setting two world records and doing it in a fraction of the time it took to build the One World Trade. [VE SHOW PIC OF ONE WORLD TRADE HERE]
A company in China named Broad Sustainable Building Corporation has taken on the building project. The tower will be called Sky City One when it's completed and by the sounds of the name, there will be more to follow.
CEO Zhang Yue first announced this grand mission one year ago and if it's given the go ahead from the government, construction will begin in November.
So how are they going to complete this 220 story building in such a short amount of time? The answer is prefabricated parts. A prefabricated building is assembled onsite from several factory-built units. So essentially, it's like assembling a building from IKEA instead of making one from scratch. Using this method, Broad was able to build a 30 story hotel in just 15 days! After it's completion in 2012, the hotel passed the national safety tests and supposedly could withstand a 9 magnitude earthquake. Sounds like a miracle technique, right? Not only does it use less resources but it is much cheeper than other building methods.
So what's the problem then? Authorities have withheld permits for Sky City One because of of safety, congestion, and environmental concerns. For one, prefabricated skyscrapers are a relatively new concept and it just doesn't seem like a good idea to apply it to the world's tallest building without some more test runs. It is also important to note that these buildings, while very stable vertically, are less so when it comes to lateral forces. So a very strong wind could potentially topple the building if there's redundant structures or if the core is not solid enough.
Zhang Yue has reportedly designed new structures to solve this issue and with an estimated 30,000 residents, I hope it is.
So what do you think? Do you think Broad can pull this off?

![World Falun Dafa Day Celebrated Around the World
One Chinese meditation practice, in more than 100 countries...
[Erping Zhang, Falun Dafa Spokesperson]:
Today is a very special day, a day when the whole world joins in the celebration because it is the 14th World Falun Dafa Day, as well the 21st anniversary of Falun Dafa, the anniversary of Falun Gong being introduced to the world.
And for this May 13th, its a celebration by those whose lives have been changed by its teachings and health benefits.
[Zenon Dolnyckyj, New York Falun Gong Practitioner]:
The energy is very wonderful, and its hard to describe. Its very powerful, but beautiful at the same time, very light, very uplifting. And the changes I felt inside myself were extremely powerful and really helped me to understand my life, to understand society better.
Zenon was with hundreds of others in Manhattan, New York on Sunday (May 12).
And these festivities repeated throughout the world. In Copenhagen, Denmark, Stockholm, Sweden, Seoul, South Korea, and Hong Kong.
For this Mainland Chinese tourist, the celebration was a surprise to see.
[Mainland Chinese Tourist]:
Yes, this is the first time Ive seen something like this. Its not allowed in Mainland China, I think Hong Kong is relatively more free.
These festivities cant be seen in China, because even though Falun Gong was first taught in China in 1992, the Communist Party has carried out a 14-year persecution campaign against its practitioners. They are punished for practicing the Falun Gong exercises, and following its teachings of Truth, Compassion and Tolerance.
Thats why on each World Falun Dafa Day, those suffering in China are never far from the minds of those who can freely practice their beliefs overseas.
[Erping Zhang, Falun Dafa Spokesperson]:
We believe that, in one day in the near future, we will also see such a day in mainland China when people, like us overseas, can freely and publicly cultivate and practice the genuine traditional Chinese culture.

She said to the parents: If it was my child [who was raped], I would take her for treatment somewhere discreet that no one knows, and not ask for a penny from the government.
The teacher responsible for the sexual abuse and rape has been arrested and the principal of the school suspended. Given the childrens increased chances of developing cancer caused by the genital herpes which resulted from sexual abuse and the long lasting psychological damages, the parents are unsatisfied with the proposed 50,000 RMB solatium.
