Hello. This summary is related to the conclusion chapter. My name is Marlon Kuntze. Our goal in the book has been to steadfastly emphasize the importance of increasing equity in learning opportunities for Deaf children. Our argument is that it is to be accomplished through different principles: the multilingual approach, the multicultural approach, the multimodal approach, the anti-bias approach, and lastly the antiracist approach. In the latter part of the chapter, there is an important section which lists the “final sticking points” related to the underlying message of the whole book. I will mention a few examples of those points. One is that it is important that you get to know the home culture and language of each student in your class. Another one is that in designing a lesson you need to be cognizant of how to include critical thinking activities. Another point is on the importance of integrating the ABAR and Deaf Studies principles consistently in your teaching. Be sure to review all those “final sticking points.”
At the end of the video, all chapter co-authors appear on screen, signing their own short messages encouraging teachers to read the book.
