Today with our friends at Jane Goodall Institute Australia, we had the honour of welcoming Dr Deus Mjungu, Director of the Gombe Stream Research Centre, during his first visit to Australia.
Dr Mjungu’s visit marked a truly special occasion as we celebrated 65 years since Dr Jane Goodall began her groundbreaking chimpanzee research in Gombe, Tanzania — a study that forever changed how we understand animals, conservation, and our connection to the natural world.
Dr Mjungu shared insights from the world’s longest-running wild chimpanzee study and reflected on the urgent need to protect forests, wildlife, and ecosystems in the face of climate change.
Taronga and @janegoodallau have worked together for over 15 years to support chimpanzee conservation and environmental education, from Sydney to central Africa.
This momentous visit reaffirmed the power of long-term collaboration and the shared vision for a sustainable future for people, animals and the planet.
