SuperJet Spade | Castlevania Rondo of Blood/Dracula X - Bloodlines (NEC PC-9801 YM2608/OPNA Cover) @SuperJet_Spade | Uploaded July 2021 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
I haven't done a Castlevania cover in a long while. I had been wanting to cover this song back in October 2018, having been inspired by Dippy's NES cover of it the same year (he also did a live stream that year of him covering this song). I was initially considering on doing it on PC Engine, but then found out that Konami themselves already did a version of the song for that system. Fragmare had done a POKEY cover of it by that point, so I was considering YM2151+SegaPCM in DefleMask. I had considered covering it on that system at some point in October 2019, but forgot when that month came that year. I only remembered when I saw that RigidatoMS covered it on the system and uploaded it to his channel. It was only recently that I decided to cover it on PC-9801 OPNA. For note reference, I used the original song converted to MIDI via VGMTrans, but I also used the covers of Dippy and RigidatoMS (the latter I used to decipher the chords and guitar plucks) to help out since the converted song had some wrong notes and/or missing pitch bends.
What I find interesting about the game this song plays in is that originally, it came out only in Japan on PC Engine-CD in 1993 under the name of "Castlevania - Rondo of Blood." This game would later see a worldwide release when it was ported to the SNES in 1995 as "Castlevania - Dracula X" (Castlevania - Vampire's Kiss in Europe). This cover is mostly based on the latter version.
Original song by: Keizo Nakamura. Thanks for watching.
