An amazing tune from @FLDE that, in the days since it was uploaded on May 2023, has gotten a FamiCommodore-type thing where so many folks have covered it on various systems. I am no stranger to covering FΛDE's tunes, but for this one, I wanted to take the song in a different direction. It's been over a year since I remixed someone else's tune in my own style. Taking the original song and adapting it into a DnB-style tune was quite fun to do, along with my own interpretations here and there (and a little saxophone section).
The Namco C219 is the most interesting arcade PCM chip I have ever worked with. While it is the successor to the Namco C140 chip, the C219 has some quirks that make it stand out among the other arcade PCM chips. It does have a 512kb sample ROM, but it's split across four 128kb banks. The way the samples are played on the chip go something like this: the 16 channels are split into 4-channel groups, and each of those groups can only play from one sample bank at a time. So, let's say you're plaing a bass sample from one sample bank on channel 9. If you decide to play a synth string sample from a different sample bank on channel 10, then channels 9, 11, and 12 will get muted. So, these are the quirks one must keep in mind when working with the Namco C219 chip. The C219 also has a built-in noise generator, which looks and sounds somewhat similar to the that of the SNES.
