The castle, positioned on the top of a hill, develops on a regular plan around a square internal courtyard. The stone facades, the result of numerous reconstructions carried out over the centuries, are characterised by the scarcity of windows, with the exception of the eastern side, accentuating the severity of the complex; next to the large entrance portal, the medieval square-plan keep rises in a projecting position, more than 30 m high, in a dominant position over the surrounding valleys. Around the castle there is a vast park full of centuries-old trees, including numerous oaks, cedars, cypresses and laurels; the oldest specimen is the mighty centuries-old oak, with a diameter of over 2 m, which rises near the entrance to the structure.
