Located in the central area of the town, today all that remains of the turreted castle of medieval origin are the bastions and the watchtower. Built in 1154 at the behest of the Marquises of Incisa, it was destroyed by the Savoyards in 1634, but was rebuilt several times because it suffered numerous destructions during the wars that bloodied Monferrato in the two centuries that followed. The last important restoration took place in the 17th century when the towers and the keep were rebuilt and the part located to the west, damaged by a serious fire, was repaired. Currently, the area of the castle and the remains that still remain after the various collapses suffered (1945-1952-1961) is owned by the Municipality of Castelnuovo Calcea, which purchased the site in 1985. In 1989, the first cleaning and recovery interventions of the wall structures (courtyard, entrance) began. In 1998, the circular watchtower (symbol of the municipal coat of arms) was finally consolidated and restored, in whose shade a large courtyard was created, a suggestive stage for various summer events (dance and gastronomic evenings, concerts, theatrical performances...). In the summer of 2004, "The Terrace of the Olives" was arranged, the underground walkway that leads to the top of the area, used as a public green and panoramic point "From the Apennines to the Alps". What can be visited today dates back to the reconstruction of the 17th century and the only traces of the medieval structure are visible in the entrance door and in the towers. Currently, the area that the Castle once occupied has been used as a public park.
