Capitol Hill Tea Party Washington (March 20, 2010) At the Capitol Hill tea party receiving line for conservative congressmen, a Texas Republican declared that Congress can make any rule and in fact that would be acceptable. Then why all the fuss about Deem and Pass and other Democratic and democratically passed rules and procedures? Republican Party leaders and members and sycophant media personalities seems to have complained mightily at any and every rule the Democratic Party has proposed or passed. The answer is rank, smelly hypocrisy.
Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi took a principled stand to wait 72 hours. Quiet differently, statements by Republicans reveal that their principles are fleeting and may be only for expediency. Congress makes their own rules and that is okay as long as the Republicans are making the rules otherwise expect the Republicans to scream bloody murder every step of the way. Deem and Pass is okay except now when the Democrats want to use it. Republican ethics seems to be tied to the whims of the day. Or maybe it is better to pretend that Deem and Pass has NEVER been used an incredible lie given all of the facts to the contrary. Reminded that he was on the record telling his constituents a falsehood, the good congressman changed his statement to acknowledge that Deem and Pass is not unique to the current health care legislation.
As for the news about the event, Tea parties seem to be losing steam and suffering from shrinking attendance despite continual propaganda and promotion by Fox News and support from conservative media and celebrities on Capitol Hill. About the Capitol rally Saturday, Fox News claimed that 60 affiliate tea party organizations planned the event; however, the crowd only numbered in the hundreds, possibly as many as two thousand. 60 tea party affiliates, free promotion by Fox, a dozen or so conservative congressional speakers, and only two thousand people thats a bust. Maybe Congress should not listen to the tea party lobbyists any more.
