In this video I build a West Coast inspired Eurorack modular system from scratch and explore what makes West Coast synthesis so unique.

Instead of classic filter-heavy subtractive patching, this rack leans into complex oscillators, wavefolding, low pass gates, function generators, and modulation-driven sound design — inspired by Don Buchla and the modern Eurorack designers who followed in his footsteps.

The core of the system is Make Noise DPO + Maths + LxD, with sequencing from the GSA Oct Tone and clocking / random modulation from ALM Pamela’s Pro Workout. For ambience I’m using the ALM Busy Circuits MFX for a spring reverb flavour.

I walk through the rack, patch it up step by step, and then finish with a jam.

Can Eurorack truly capture the West Coast approach to synthesis?
