I haven't been able to find any good info about whether it was possible to use a single board computer (SBC) without a backplane. So I tried it out. This particular board (theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/protech-pc-410#downloads) looked like the header was a basic P8 connector for an AT power supply. So I tried it! It works!
