LA Zoo | California Condor Chick LA123 Meets Mandan and Jan @TheLosAngelesZoo | Uploaded 1 year ago | Updated 31 minutes ago
Earlier this year, California condor chick LA123 was successfully placed back with adult condors Mandan and Jan. The pair will rear LA123 for around 10 months until the chick is old enough to join a cohort of other juvenile birds from the 2023 season. He still has a long way to go before then and will be cared for by his parents to learn the necessary social skills to become a well-adjusted adult condor. ‟Mandan and Jan will teach LA123 how to function within a social landscape and read subtle cues from other members of the flock,” says Animal Keeper Chandra David. ‟This will pay dividends for a smooth transition from human support to a life of independence.”
