LA Zoo | First Ever Motus System In Los Angeles! @TheLosAngelesZoo | Uploaded 1 year ago | Updated 28 minutes ago
Exciting 🐦 news: The first ever Motus system inside the City of Los Angeles has been installed just in time for #WorldMigratoryBirdDay! The Motus Wildlife Tracking System uses automated radio telemetry to track and collect data from numerous species of tagged migrating birds, bats, and insects. It enables an international community of researchers, educators, organizations, and citizens to undertake impactful research on the ecology and conservation of migratory animals.
The Zoo worked with a team from the Southern Sierra Research Station and Pasadena Audubon to install the Motus system at the Zoo's oak woodlands- a first of its kind for Los Angeles. This station will fill in critical gaps in Motus coverage in California, and will be able to capture signals transmitted from animals across an important expanse including Griffith Park, East L.A., and the Verdugo mountains.
