On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at around 12:23 a.m., Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies responded to Black Label Marine, located at 4211 NW Blitchton Road, in reference to a commercial burglary in progress. An employee of the business advised he received an alert from the alarm company that an unidentified man was at the business stealing an ATV valued at around $20,000. The man was also observed forcibly entering a pickup truck on the property.
Upon arrival, Sergeant John Warmuth observed the man, who was later identified as Kelly Gomas II (W/M, DOB: 04/04/1978), still inside the pickup truck. When he saw Sgt. Warmuth, Gomas fled from the vehicle on foot. A perimeter was established by MCSO deputies and Ocala Police Department (OPD) officers and MCSO K-9 Deputy Anthony Esquivel responded to conduct a track with his partner, K-9 Jet. K-9 Jet ultimately located and apprehended Gomas in his hiding spot underneath a pontoon boat on the property.
Gomas was taken into custody and medics responded to assist. While waiting for medics to arrive, Gomas admitted to deputies that he was in possession of drug paraphernalia. The business employee also responded to provide insight into what was burglarized, stolen, and damaged by Gomas. In total, Gomas burglarized one building and two pickup trucks, stole two Honda ATVs and a forklift, and caused approximately $15,000 in damage to the business’ property.
Gomas was arrested for two counts of Burglary of a Conveyance, two counts of Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, and one count each of Burglary of a Structure, Grand Theft more than $10,000 but less than $20,000, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. OPD also charged Gomas for seven additional, unrelated crimes committed within the City of Ocala, including burglary, theft, criminal mischief, and fraud.
